An iconic public art project will visually transform the streetscape around The Breakfast Klub and neighboring IN. NATURE studios. Four large-scale murals hand-painted by Houston artists reproduce striking images by prominent American artists Shepard Fairey, Beverly McIver, and Vincent Valdez. Each piece urges Texans to use their power as voters to shape the direction of our future.
The project is a partnership between TBK Cares with Mel and Marcus Davis, Inanimate Nature (IN. NATURE), and commissioned by People For the American Way Foundation as part of its nonpartisan Artists for the American Way. It brings a more enduring presence to artwork that is part of Artists for the American Way's billboards, mobile trucks, postings and other public art displays focused on encouraging people to vote in the upcoming midterm elections. That broader campaign also features art by Jeffrey Gibson, Deborah Kass, Tracie Ching, Michael Dixon, and Ellena Dien.
“Art this powerful deserves a powerful presentation,” said People For the American Way Foundation President Svante Myrick. “We are proud to be in partnership with great artists and the beloved landmark The Breakfast Klub to remind people that our future is in our hands.”
“I’m proud to be part of a campaign that uses art to encourage people to assert their dignity and exercise their right to vote,” said Vincent Valdez. “In these challenging times, art is an instrument that can serve as a reminder to us all—truth and voting still matter.”
“Art connects us to one another, our shared history, and the future we have the power to shape,” Shepard Fairey said. “We’re harnessing art’s emotional power to galvanize people to defend democracy by participating in it. Voting is every American's right to make their voice heard.”
“I want my art to remind people that they have the right to vote and the power to make a difference,” said Beverly McIver. “I’m proud to partner with People For the American Way Foundation and other artists to inspire people to take action for themselves and their communities.”
"As entrepreneurs we have always been about the business of building community,” said Mel and Marcus Davis of The Breakfast Klub and TBK Cares. “We love bringing beautiful art into this community to inspire and empower. In the words of Shirley Chisholm, ‘Service is the rent we pay for living on this earth.’”
Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis celebrated the murals and their message, saying, “Public art can do more than beautify a block. It can bring people together and remind us that democracy works best when everyone has a voice in shaping our shared future—and uses it. I’m proud to celebrate the artists and community partners bringing that message to life right here in Harris County. As early voting gets underway, these murals serve as a timely reminder to make a plan and remember to vote.”
Myrick thanked all the artists and partners, including People For the American Way Foundation President Emeritus and Houston native Michael B. Keegan for his creative vision, tireless work, and philanthropic support of the project.
The community celebration will take place Sunday, October 25, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., with live music, a car meet, art activities, and open studios marking the opening of IN. NATURE at 3704 Travis Street. Remarks and the mural presentation will begin at 4 p.m. at The Breakfast Klub frontage, 3711 Travis Street, Houston. Preston Gaines of IN. NATURE is coordinating the local production.
