Washington, DC -- With Sen. Bill Cassidy’s announcement that he will provide the deciding vote to confirm President Trump’s former criminal defense attorney Todd Blanche, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:
Senate Republicans had an opportunity to put country over party. Instead, they have failed once again to fulfill their constitutional duty to check a corrupt president. Rather than holding him accountable for his lawlessness, they are enabling and rewarding it.
As acting attorney general, Todd Blanche has overseen the corruption of the Justice Department. He has betrayed the rule of law and the interests of the American people for Donald Trump’s personal and financial benefit.
The confirmation of Todd Blanche as attorney general will also serve as confirmation of the utter corruption of the Republican Party by the Trump regime. It is clearer than ever that accountability must come from the American people. And that begins with the November midterms.
