Washington, DC -- In response to reporting about charges of sexual abuse by United Farmworkers’ former leader Cesar Chavez and that civil rights icon Dolores Huerta and long-time People For the American Way Board member is one of the survivors of that abuse, People For President Svante Myrick released the following statement:
I have never met anyone who has fought harder, longer, or more joyfully for justice than Dolores Huerta. She has spent a lifetime advocating with and for farmworkers, women, and anyone who has been left out or pushed aside in our country. I have seen the courage and commitment she inspires among young people as she works to build a lasting and inclusive justice movement. I am proud to stand with Dolores as she speaks her own truth. We stand with survivors who have suffered in silence, those who are bravely telling their stories, and all who are committed to building a better world.
