Last week, the College Republicans of America announced that Kai Schwemmer had been named the organization's political director.

College Republicans of America emerged in 2023 amid a schism with the College Republican National Committee and now seeks to "replace the CRNC and to aid the GOP in cultivating the next generation of Republican activists, staffers, and leaders."
Schwemmer, who recently attended the State of the United address as a guest of Rep. Burgess Owens, will play a key role in that effort, explaining during a recent livestream that his task will be to mobilize college Republicans in targeted political campaigns around the country.
This is noteworthy because Schwemmer is an overt groyper, which is the term used by followers of Hitler-loving racist, misogynistic, antisemitic, homophobic, Christian nationalist, fascist, white nationalist, Nick Fuentes.
Schwemmer, also known as Kai Clips, has a channel on Fuentes' invitation-only streaming platform Cozy and was featured as a "special guest" at Fuentes' 2022 APFAC III conference.
That same year, Schwemmer did an interview in which he reported that he is a political commentator and campus speaker who is "affiliated with America First," which is Fuentes' political organization.
Schwemmer was also one of a handful of far-right America First activists to be featured in the pro-Fuentes documentary "The Most Canceled Man In America," where he explained that it was Fuentes' nightly program that radicalized him on the issue of immigration and brought him into the America First movement.
Insisting that Fuentes' myriad outrageous statements might be "a little bit controversial, a little bit hyperbolic," Schwemmer claimed that they are also "obviously humorous" and designed to get you to laugh "and think at the same time."
This seems to be Schwemmer's role in the movement: Putting a moderate face on America First's racist, antisemitic, and radically authoritarian agenda.
Schwemmer himself admitted that he does not personally use the sorts of overtly outrageous and bigoted rhetoric for which those in the America First movement are known because he has "more authentic political aspirations."
"If I don't need to welcome in angles of attack that people can use against me unnecessarily, I won't," Schwemmer said. "I want to be a politician."
But that does not mean that he has any objection to the things said by Fuentes and others in the movement. In fact, he thinks they are valuable.
"I do think there is absolutely a place and a value behind making those kinds of jokes, saying those kinds of words, trying to push the envelope socially and trying to remove the lens of political correctness from our lives," Schwemmer said. "The way to respond to that is, in the reactionary sense, by making offensive jokes, continuing to do it, responding to the political correctness culture."
