Lou Engle, an elder in the dominionist New Apostolic Reformation movement, released a video Wednesday with Eileen Marx, the wife of Colorado gubernatorial candidate Victor Marx, calling for Christians to fast for 21 days to move God to intervene in the election. The fast is set to start on Sept. 21st, the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur.
“We understand clearly that this is not just an election, but this is a spiritual battle against the forces of wickedness,” Eileen Marx says while standing next to Engle. Eileen Marx said she and Engle share “the same heart and mind for Colorado.”
Polling and prediction markets suggest that Marx is likely to lose to his Democratic opponent, state Attorney General Phil Weiser, but Engle said that prayer and fasting could bring about a “miracle” in the race.
Engle has a long history of promoting prayer and fasting for right-wing political purposes, including calls for God to take out Supreme Court justices so that Trump could replace them with anti-abortion judges.
In his new video, Engle recalls Victor Marx saying that the election outcome would be determined by prayer. Engle said he believes the Holy Spirit stirred Eileen to call for a 21-day fast. “How can I not blow the trumpet?” he asked, adding that he believes Eileen “stands as a potential First Lady.”
“And so today, I am joining with you, I am joining with Victor Marx, declaring that fasting and prayer shifts history…We’re believing that after this 21-day fast there will be a shift, even in ideologies, even in people’s minds…We’re believing that in 21 days a miracle could take place in Colorado…We’re in a crisis and it’s a spiritual battle. Let’s join the spiritual battle.”
Victor Marx, who has made questionable claims about his life and epic adventures, is no stranger to spiritual warfare. TPM recently unearthed audio of Marx claiming to have “met Satan in person” through his confrontation with a demonically possessed person. He has said that on his first day as governor he would “consecrate the state back to God.” Marx appeared on a panel with dominionist Lance Wallnau at a CPAC “faith summit” earlier this year.
Victor Marx has recently touted his endorsement by Andrew Wommack, another dominionst figure who mobilized his church to take over the local school board a few years ago and then tried and failed to do the same with the Woodland Park city council in 2024.
In late August, Marx skipped a debate with his Weiser and independent Greg Lopez.
