Iowa GOP’s ‘Terrifying’ Fundraiser Echoes DHS Intimidation Tactics

While the number of killings by ICE officers is climbing, and DHS is sending agents to intimidate American citizens over social media posts critical of ICE officials, what’s “terrifying” to the Iowa Republican Party is criticism of Trump administration border czar Tom Homan.

An email sent from “MAGA Alerts” Monday morning carried the subject line, “What happened to Tom Homan today serves as a terrifying Reminder!”

The email began ominously:

Patriot:

Your immediate attention is required.

Please confirm you are in a safe and private place to correspond, ensuring no Democrats can read the following message over your shoulder.

When you are ready, please direct your undivided attention to the following:

Readers who click through once they’re in a secure location got this message:

At 8:58 AM, local time, a national MAGA alert was placed into effect under direct orders from Executive MAGA Leadership.

Tom Homan just said something on national television that has prompted Democrats to push for his immediate forced resignation as United States Border Czar.

What Homan said—more than a month ago on the right-wing outlet Newsmax—was that Democratic officials had “sold out” the country for political power by encouraging illegal immigration. It was inflammatory rhetoric, but certainly not the first time someone in Trump world has made that kind of accusation.

The fundraising letter then claimed falsely that Democrats were “dangerously close” to forcing Homan’s removal, adding, “All efforts and resources of the Democratic Party have been directed toward seeking his resignation.” There’s no evidence of that.

After a bit more inflammatory anti-immigration rhetoric, the email asks people to sign a petition defending Homan and to make a monthly contribution “to combat the Democrats’ ongoing attacks on President Trump and his administration.”

And there’s a bit of intimidation for anyone who might be hesitating:

Contributions to the email are being shared by the Republican Party of Iowa and Trump National Committee Joint Fundraising Committee.
