Joel Webbon Has A Message For Black People Regarding America's History Of Oppression: 'It's Your Fault'

Joel Webbon

Joel Webbon, a racist, antisemitic, and deeply misogynistic Christian nationalist Texas-based pastor, used a recent episode of his Right Response Ministries podcast to tell Black people to "stop whining" about the oppression they have suffered throughout American history.

"Cut it out," Webbon said. "You need to grow up. Stop throwing a fit. You're throwing a tantrum. Stop being a little boy. You're whining and crying about something that's ultimately your fault. Stop blaming it on other people. It's your fault."

"It's like, 'Whoa, slavery.' The richest Black people on God's green earth are African Americans. If slavery never happened, then you would be in a grass hut," he continued. "'Well, we need reparations.' Your reparations are that you get to live in America. You're welcome."

"The greatest moment in history for any brown or black country is the moment that the White man's ships arrive on your shore," Webbon declared. "He brings the gospel of Jesus Christ, he catechizes you and your children, he brings exports, he brings hospitals, medicine, life expansion increases, GDP and resources increase, medicine increases, and most importantly, you get taught the gospel of Jesus Christ so that you can live longer on Earth and then go to Heaven instead of Hell."

Webbon said that while White people have certainly committed sins, they did so while worshiping Jesus whereas "much of the rest of the world has been worshiping demons."

"European people have been building cathedrals; non-European people have been building grass huts," Webbon asserted. "And for those who are of non-European descent, but live in the Western world, you are exceedingly blessed. And the response shouldn't be, 'Let's push back against wokeness and just say nobody talk about race.' No, the response should be: Stop whining, stop throwing a fit, get it together. God has blessed you, and he blessed you in large part through White people. So stop doing it. And also, as for you and your house, do your part to change the FBI crime statistics and stop killing people."

This sort of racist statement is quite common for Webbon given that he is an unapologetic fascist who thinks that this country must be governed by a Christian dictator that will “rule with an iron fist” and force everyone to, at the very least, “pretend to be Christian.”

Under his preferred form of Christian nationalist theocracy, Webbon wants to see the Apostles’ Creed added to the Constitution; abortion, pornography, no-fault divorce, in vitro fertilization, and birth control outlawed; non-Christians kept out of his neighborhood and out of public office; Catholics relegated to second-class citizenship; immigrants shot for trying to enter the country; adulterers put to death; women banned from voting and publicly executed for making false claims of sexual assault; and the government used to "absolutely terrorize" his political enemies.

In 2023, Webbon was among the contributors to a document called “The Statement on Christian Nationalism and the Gospel.” Drafted by Christian nationalists like Oklahoma state Sen. Dusty Deevers, former Trump administration official William Wolfe, and others, the document declared that the United States must formally  “acknowledge the Lordship of Christ” in all its laws, “abolish abortion,” outlaw marriage equality, and “recapture our national sovereignty from godless, global entities who present a grave threat to civilization.” Wolfe is a close associate of OMB Director Russ Vought, a proponent of Christian nationalism who declared his desire to put federal bureaucrats "in trauma."

In addition to serving as pastor at Covenant Bible Church in Texas, Webbon is also the founder of Right Response Ministries, through which he organizes events like the “Christ Is King: How To Defeat Trashworld” conference that featured a variety of far-right Christian nationalist activists like Deevers, Steve Deace, Stephen Wolfe, Auron MacIntyre, Andrew Isker, and others.
