During a recent episode of his self-titled program, self-proclaimed Christian nationalist and unabashed Trump cultist Lance Wallnau declared that legendary director Rob Reiner and his wife were murdered by their own son late last year because Reiner had released a movie criticizing Christian nationalism.
In 2024, Reiner produced the documentary "God & Country" about the threat to democracy posed by the MAGA movement’s aggressive Christian nationalism, which featured Wallnau and a host of other far-right Christian activists.
Wallnau claimed that Reiner's criticism of himself and President Donald Trump "had opened up his own house to such demonization that his son lost his mind and killed his parents."
Wallnau cited a passage from the book of Isaiah in which the king of Assyria, Sennacherib, attacked the kingdom of Judah only to see 185,000 of his troops killed by an angel of the Lord before he himself was killed by his own sons. This was a warning, Wallnau said, that those who criticize Trump are really blaspheming God.
"The Lord says, 'Behold, they are blaspheming me,' Wallnau declared. "You see, if God has plans to bless you and restore you and people are saying you've got an idiot leader that doesn't know what he's doing, getting us in trouble, they're actually not just talking about the leader, they're talking about God."
"When the Bible says you shall not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain, it isn't talking about cussing," Wallnau asserted. "It's saying don't attach the name of God to that which isn't God. Anyway, an angel comes down that night and kills 185,000 Assyrian soldiers, and the leader ends up going back to his house, tragically, where he's killed by his own sons."
"I think about Rob Reiner," Wallnau added. "I prayed for Rob Reiner. Rob Reiner attacked me, attacked Trump, said I was a dangerous Christian nationalist. I was shocked, but not surprised, to find out that he had opened up his own house to such demonization that his son lost his mind and killed his parents. I don't think it was God. I think it was the devil. But here's the thing about spiritual things: Pray for your enemies. Pray because they're working themselves into greater and greater darkness, and that darkness could actually ultimately turn on them."
