From the moment New York state assemblyman Zohran Mamdani won the Democratic primary for mayor of New York City earlier this month, MAGA activists and Christian nationalists have been having a meltdown over the prospect of a Muslim becoming the mayor of America's largest city.
This outrage was on full display when the "FlashPoint" television program hosted a live event in Kentucky over the Independence Day holiday weekend. During a panel discussion, right-wing pastor Lorenzo Sewell, who delivered the benediction at President Donald Trump's inauguration, warned that Mamdani "could be a son of Satan."
"New York is a gateway city and the Bible says that we would possess the gates of our enemies," Sewell said. "The Church of the Living God, we need to begin to pray that God would raise up men and women of God in New York that would be wise as a serpent [but] harmless as a dove, that they would be as bold as lions but as gentle as a lamb because this man, his soul is lost. He could be a son of Satan. We don't know that, but we need to be praying that God would break this stronghold."
"This is a demonic spirit," Sewell continued. "We have to come against this, and we need to pray that there would be churches that would raise up. Where are the churches? Isn't [David] Wilkinson's church there? Where are the churches? Where are the people of God that will stand up and say, 'Enough is enough. We come against this spirit. You will not have our biggest city. Devil, you will not have New York'?"
"Just as in the natural, we bombed Iran," Sewell declared, "in the spiritual, we need to bomb the spirit of Islam that's trying to take over our country."
