Mark Meckler is a Christian nationalist political activist and right-wing commentator who is the co-founder and president of the Convention of States Foundation, a conservative organization that seeks to get state legislatures to call for an Article V convention to propose constitutional amendments that will dramatically limit the power of the federal government.
In his capacity as president of COS, Meckler hosts a livestream program on Sunday nights called "The Battle Cry" in which he shares his views on contemporary political issues. On the most recent episode of his program, Meckler praised President Donald Trump for calling Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz "seriously retarded" in a recent social media post.
"[Walz is] really upset right now because people are calling him, because of President Trump, they're calling him a retard," Meckler said. "So let's talk about this word retard because this has now been made very controversial. There are so many words in the English language that have been driven out of use because we've been told they're politically incorrect. Well, that's just cultural Marxism."
"The word retard, you know what it means, I know what it means, we all know what it means," Meckler continued. "It means somebody who's dumb or lame or ridiculous. What the left, the thought police, the speech police, [what] they're trying to tell you [is] that when we do this, we are insulting people who are mentally handicapped."
Insisting that nobody uses that word to describe people with mental disabilities, Meckler asserted that he's only heard it used to insult "people who are just lame or ridiculous or dumb or doing stupid things or offensive things."
"People say that that's retarded, that person is a retard," Meckler declared. "So this has now come back into common use and I'm actually glad it has because it just shows we're recapturing language from the woke left."
