From the moment President Donald Trump refused to accept his loss in the 2020 election, he made it clear that he was intent on returning to the White House in 2024 to enact retribution against his enemies.
"If you put me back in the White House, their reign will be over and they know it," Trump proclaimed when he spoke at CPAC in 2023. "In 2016, I declared, I am your voice. Today, I add, I am your warrior, I am your justice, and for those who have been wronged and betrayed, I am your retribution. I am your retribution."
Since taking office, Trump has ruthlessly followed through on his promise, using the power of the government to relentlessly target his enemies.
Thus, it was rather surprising to hear former congresswoman and unabashed Trump cultist Michele Bachmann declare during a recent episode of the "Understanding The Times" program that Democrats must never be allowed to gain power again because "they're going to bring retribution against us."
"They want to undermine our choice," Bachmann said. "We made our choices as to who we wanted to serve us and be in public office. So, these Democrats—who are like wild people right now—they want to undermine our choices. They aren't focused on solving problems. They aren't [focused] on making our lives better or bringing down costs. What do they want? They want power. So these are the last people we should ever give power to because they want power for power's sake."
"You just had Rep. Jamie Raskin, a male member of Congress, who said when they get back in power, they're going to bring retribution against us because they don't like us very much," she added. "This is a dictatorship mentality."
For the record, the remarks to which Bachmann was referring did not consist of Rep. Raskin vowing to bring retribution against conservatives and Republicans but rather consisted of Raskin decrying "the Trump Administration’s agenda of lawlessness and retribution at the Federal Bureau of Investigation" and its attacks on former administration officials.
