Mike Johnson Says Christians Must Vote For The GOP To 'Make Sure That The Righteous Are Ruling'

Donald Trump and Mike Johnson.

In an election cycle in which a myriad of extremist, abusive, adulterous, deplorable Republican candidates are running vile campaigns while the party itself is led by a rampantly corrupt administration and a deteriorating president who can't stop talking about beautiful asses, House Speaker Mike Johnson said that Christians have a biblical obligation to vote for the GOP to "make sure that the righteous are ruling."

Appearing on last weekend's episode of "The Week On Capitol Hill" hosted by religious-right activist Tony Perkins, Johnson made a final pitch to voters before the upcoming midterms.

"What will you say to those voters who are considering sitting this election out?" asked Perkins.

"You're derelict in your duty if you sit out this election," Johnson replied. "You just are."

"God calls us to be engaged, to be salt and light in our culture, to advance and stand for his principles, and they are under assault right now," Johnson continued. "If the foundations be destroyed, what will the righteous do? That's Psalm 11:3. That is not a rhetorical question for us. It's something that we get to answer because we have to bless of living in this free country. Every two years, you get to go and vote for your members in the House of Representatives and this is the basic responsibility we have. Romans 13 and all the reminders in Scripture; the civil authorities are ordained of God, but we have to be engaged in that process to make sure that the righteous are ruling."

"To put it bluntly, you cannot allow these radical elements to take over your country," Johnson declared. "I truly believe it's a basic responsibility we have to vote our values and advance the principles that we know to be right and true and good."
