Rep. Glenn Grothman Says Billion Dollar Slush Fund Will Vindicate Trump In The 'Court Of History'

When the Trump administration announced the creation of $1.8 billion slush fund to compensate MAGA activists who had supposedly been politically persecuted by the Biden administration, Democrats denounced it as abject corruption while even some Republicans voiced concerns

GOP Rep. Glenn Grothman was obviously not among them, because when he appeared on the "Washington Watch" program earlier this week, he insisted that the fund is necessary to set a historical precedent.

"President Trump is not looking for money for [himself] here, but he does feel that for precedent, the Department of Justice has to pay something," Grothman asserted. "Somebody's got to be slapped a little bit to make sure this doesn't happen again. And also when money is paid, it's kind of an admission of guilt by the Department of Justice, both on shenanigans going into President Trump's campaign in 2020, as well as legal matters going after some of his children."

"It's only appropriate the government pays something," he continued. "We'll find out who it goes to. I don't think it's all necessarily going to go to conservative groups or friends of President Trump, but ultimately some damages have to be paid."

"It's important in the court of history that we realize that the federal government tried to make up stuff about Russian collusion and President Trump," Grothman added. "One of the things that comes out of these funds, which are going to be extracted, is hopefully in history books from here on out, we are always going to remember what the Biden Justice Department was capable of and hopefully this will prevent future Justice Departments from going after their political enemies."

It is absurd for Grothman to claim that Trump's slush fund is needed to prevent the government from being used against their political enemies when the Trump administration itself is relentlessly using the power of the government to target its political enemies.
