People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement upon the announcement that President Trump is nominating his former lawyer Todd Blanche to be attorney general of the United States:
In his senior positions as Deputy Attorney General and then Acting Attorney General, Todd Blanche bears the responsibility for the Justice Department’s transformation into an instrument of Trump’s personal revenge and political persecution.
We don’t have to wonder how dangerous Todd Blanche would be as attorney general. He’s already shown us. He is the face of Trump’s $1.8 billion slush fund for insurrectionists. He stopped the IRS from auditing Trump’s taxes. He carried out Trump’s demand for bogus prosecutions of his political enemies. He’s been the administration’s point man on covering up the Epstein files. Todd Blanche is everything an attorney general should not be. The vote against his confirmation should not even be close.
