Washington D.C. – Following the reintroduction in the Senate of the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:

“We only have a few months to go before an election that could save our democracy – or sink it. That means every eligible voter in this country must be able to participate. And that’s why it’s so important to pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. We know the rights of voters of color have been under a sustained attack since the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act. This bill, along with the Freedom to Vote Act and the Native American Voting Rights Act, will help restore voting rights in this country so we can all participate in one of the most consequential elections of our lives. We look forward to speedy passage in the Senate.”
