Washington, D.C.— In response to reports that Postmaster General Louis DeJoy will halt any further operational changes at the U.S. Postal Service until after the election, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“Louis DeJoy’s announcement that he will halt destructive changes to the postal service until after the election is proof positive that the public pressure on him and on Donald Trump is working.  It is also not nearly enough. The American people are outraged over DeJoy’s and Trump’s unconscionable attempts to sabotage the postal service, an effort that is depriving millions of people of essential services.  We are still in the midst of a pandemic and the postal service will remain indispensable up until the election and long after.  Congress must pass legislation to fully fund the postal service to meet the urgent needs of this moment, which Republicans and this administration have resisted --  as well as to halt any further harmful operational changes.  Meanwhile, we look forward to tough questioning of DeJoy when he appears in the Senate and the House in coming days.”
