Washington, D.C.—Last night, Donald Trump tweeted that Democrats are playing a “con game” by demanding a full investigation of the sexual misconduct and assault allegations against Brett Kavanaugh. People For the American Way Executive Vice President Marge Baker released the following statement in response:

“People running con games typically do not ask to be interviewed by the FBI. Both Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez have asked for thorough, independent investigations of their allegations. Brett Kavanaugh is not entitled to a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court—he and the Republicans pushing his nomination bear the burden of putting these concerns to rest.

“Continuing their effort to ‘plow right through it,’ as Senate Majority Leader McConnell put it, only adds to the perception that Kavanaugh and the GOP have something to hide. Survivors of sexual assault deserve to be heard. This process should not go forward until a thorough FBI investigation clears up the very real concerns about Kavanaugh’s past behavior, his truthfulness, and his suitability for the Supreme Court.”
