In response to Senate Republicans’ vote today to confirm Michael Brennan to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, People For the American Way Executive Vice President Marge Baker issued the following statement:

“Republicans have made clear that they’re intent on doing everything in their power to tear down the checks and balances designed to constrain Donald Trump’s—or any president’s—worst impulses. Instead of standing up for the integrity of the judicial branch, they haven’t just voted to confirm blatantly unqualified and unfit judges, they’ve made it increasingly difficult for senators even to stand up for their own constituents. That campaign has been led by Mitch McConnell and Chuck Grassley, but today every single Republican voted to toss aside a century of Senate tradition to support a blatant partisan power grab.

“Enough is enough. Any senator who cares about our system of checks and balances, as well as the importance of an independent judiciary, should refuse to support any more Trump judicial nominees.”
