There are few elected officials in office today who can match Oklahoma state Sen. Dusty Deevers in their zeal to see the United States turned into an all-encompassing Christian nationalist theocracy.
Deevers, who just announced that he is running for reelection, is a far-right pastor and unabashed Christian nationalist who wants to abolish abortion, ban no-fault divorce, outlaw pornography, and literally see this nation taken back to the 1600s, As such, Deevers has made no secret of his belief that the fundamental purpose of government is to convert people to Jesus Christ.
In fact, this was the central message of a speech entitled "God's Mandate to Government Leaders" that he delivered earlier this year at the "Make Disciples" National Founders Conference, organized by Founders Ministries.
"The chief end of every government is to glorify God and to protect its people's God-given right to glorify and enjoy Him forever," Deevers declared. "I'll say it again: The chief end of every government is to glorify God and to protect its people's God-given right to glorify and enjoy Him forever."
"My aim is twofold," Deevers continued. "Number one, to confront you with the absolute lordship of Jesus Christ, to awaken holy fear of treason against Christ, and equip legislators to govern as His servants so that your laws and priorities and public witness protect the citizen's right to know and enjoy God forever. Second, to call upon the church of Jesus Christ to declare to and warn their legislators of the sovereign authority of Christ to order His world by His word."
"Government and her magistrates are never neutral," he said. "They always orient citizens toward a god. So will you direct them to the living Christ or to idols and then face the Living Judge for your attempted insurrection against His throne? Legislators, hear this warning. God will not be mocked. You are not sovereign. You will give an account before King Jesus. If you belittle Christ in the halls of power and blaspheme Him by not ascribing to Him glory and authority over the governments that rest upon His shoulders, the scepter you grasp will become the rod that breaks you. Kiss the Son or face the beating. You must choose your allegiance."
Deevers is a co-author of The Statement on Christian Nationalism and the Gospel, which calls for U.S. law to “formally acknowledge the Lordship of Christ” and insists on “national recognition of essential Christian Orthodoxy.” Other contributors include former Trump official William Wolfe and extremist “theobro” Joel Webbon.
