Right Wing Boost? Christian Nationalist Pastor Dusty Deevers Loses Reelection Bid

Official photo of Dusty Deevers

In 2023, far-right pastor Dusty Deevers was elected to a seat in the Oklahoma Senate, where he vowed to apply "the word of God to every issue."

Upon taking office, Deevers provided a case study in what happens when Christian nationalists get in power as he sought to abolish abortion, ban no-fault divorce, outlaw pornography, and literally take the nation back to the 1600s. Time and again, Deevers declared that the fundamental purpose of government is to convert people to faith in Jesus Christ.

Legislators, hear this warning. God will not be mocked. You are not sovereign. You will give an account before King Jesus. If you belittle Christ in the halls of power and blaspheme Him by not ascribing to Him glory and authority over the governments that rest upon His shoulders, the scepter you grasp will become the rod that breaks you. Kiss the Son or face the beating.

Naturally, Deevers' radicalism resulted in regular coverage from Right Wing Watch and just about every time we wrote about him, he took to social media to thank "Right Wing Boost" for allegedly helping to promote his message and reputation.

While Deevers obviously enjoyed preening about his radical views on social media, the voters in his district were obviously less impressed, as they voted him out of office in Tuesday's Republican primary, where he finished last among three candidates.

Presumably, Deevers won't be thanking "Right Wing Boost' for highlighting him this time around.
